I recently discovered to my delight the Japanese art of Sashiko, an embroidery technique (similar to my favorite Crewel Embroidery) that translates ‘little stabs’ a technique traditionally used to reinforce points of wear, or to repair worn places or tears with patches, this running stitch technique is often used for purely decorative purposes in quilting and embroidery. The white cotton thread on the traditional indigo blue cloth gives sashiko its distinctive appearance, though decorative items sometimes use red thread. There is plenty of inspiration on the Sashiko Flikr Group Pool and Sashiko kits can be bought at Tadaa Studios.

Design, Marketing, SEO | Bright New MediaAnita Davis of Pillow Mint recommended to me this lovely shop Satch and Sol.
For the love of family and earth, Satch & Sol partners with fair trade artisan cooperatives worldwide and strives to be eco-friendly through product selection and business practices.
They celebrate the artist for the unique quality each brings to the collection. The Artists of Mongolia apply traditional felting and knitting skills to create beauty and quality for the Satch & Sol collection. They are expanding by adding collections from around the world where artistic beauty abounds. Handmade processes ensure that no two items are ever exactly alike.
Born in 2008, Satch & Sol (pronounced like the Spanish “sol” meaning sun) is the beloved business of Susan Bell with assistance and support of her family – Sam, Solomon & Satchel.
They have a Mongolia collection for infants, little kids, big kids and grown-ups, including felted wool slippers, cotton hand-knits, accessories, and more. Handmade and reflecting the Mongolian passion for color, Satch & Sol’s styles are refreshingly unique.
